Dale is a senior television producer with more than 30 years of British and International network experience in specialist factual and documentary programmes. Journalist-trained, Dale spent 22 years working for BBC TV across a range of departments including natural history, science, documentaries, popular factual, and current affairs. Dale has been show-running and EP-ing shows for more than 20 years.
At the BBC’s Natural History Unit, Dale series produced the multi-BAFTA/Emmy award winning landmark series Human Planet. The 8 x 60 series had a budget of $1.5million per episode and was one of the biggest international sellers for BBC Worldwide in 2011. Human Planet was the first BBC landmark series to fit within the BBC Earth brand and Dale worked very closely with the BBC Earth/Worldwide team for four years to build the brand, product and marketing that went with the series. Human Planet was nominated for 8 BAFTAs (a record for a documentary), winning two for editing and cinematography and the series won a raft of other high profile industry awards. Dale co-wrote the book that accompanied the series.
Dale prides herself in still being a “hands-on” producer and director who is able to translate complex subjects into entertaining and informative content for mass audiences around the world. She is used to managing complex multi-camera productions with large teams, as well as smaller documentary units. Dale has filmed and worked in more than 60 countries. She has run a range of network prime-time shows as both a showrunner and executive producer for ITV, BBC, Channel 4 and Discovery. She has produced Bear Grylls on a number of shows including Mission Survive, a factual entertainment show for ITV with a budget of over $1m per episode.
Dale was the individual recipient of the 2011 Royal Geographical Society’s Cherry Kearton Medal and Award for Natural History Photography and Cinematography. Dale also works as a travel writer for the Daily Telegraph and National Geographic Traveller; she is a film judge, guest university lecturer and a well-established professional public speaker working for American and British companies. She is also a member of BAFTA and Directors UK.
