French born Master Pâtissier Eric Lanlard, author of eight books and star of four TV series, has earned a reputation for superlative baked creations with an impressive A List clientele. He is, according to Vanity Fair magazine, one of the best patissiers in the world.
Eric describes his inspiration to become a Pâtissier began at age 5, when he would visit his local patisserie ‘Le Grand’ in Quinper, where he would go to work at age 18 as a trainee pastry chef. Later he moved to Luxembourg to become a chocolatier at Arens-Scheer. After his apprenticeship he was called up to join the French Navy serving on the cruiser Jeanne d’Arc, where his cooking impressed the French President, François Mitterrand.
Eric moved to London in 1989, aged 22, to work for Albert and Michel Roux, becoming Head Pastry Chef within two years. In 1995 Eric established his own wholesale patisserie, leading to the opening of Cake Boy, a destination café, cake emporium and cookery school based in South West London where classes are taught by Eric on a weekly basis.
Eric’s skills and talent have turned him into a ‘much in demand’ global baking ambassador and he creates bespoke afternoon tea, sweet treats and experiences for the award winning P&O Cruises, Virgin Atlantic Airways and Marriott International. He has also now twice been named Continental Patissier of the Year at the British Baking Awards.
Among his celebrity clientele, Eric has created wedding cakes for both Elizabeth Hurley and Claudia Schiffer; as well as birthday cakes for Brooklyn Beckham and the Queen Mother’s 101st birthday, which featured two corgis wearing tiaras.
