Journalist - Presenter - Speaker

Lynda Bryans was anchor presenter for Ulster TV’s main news programme UTV Live, and a reporter for ITV News, before leaving broadcasting and qualifying as a teacher. She began her career in the BBC Northern Ireland newsroom during the height of the hunger strikes in the early 1980’s. A career that has spanned three decades, she was the former host of Inside Ulster, she filed reports for Holiday and was a presenter on the first ever Animal Hospital. Lynda became a Northern Irish institution presenting Sunday Morning and Home Sweet Home.

Lynda anchored the local UTV Live flagship TV News for 14 years and hosted the live Radio show “Lunch with Lynda Bryans” on u105. She has covered local, national and international events for both the BBC and ITV networks, and has covered a wide range of breaking news; most notably travelling to New York in the aftermath of the 9/11 tragedy.

Lynda is now Course Director of the Level 5 HND Journalism programme at Belfast Metropolitan College. She is a qualified teacher and holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Further and Higher Education (PGCE) with an HND in Broadcast Journalism. Lynda is a member of the lecturing team across several Multiplatform Journalism courses, where her subject areas are Broadcast Journalism and Public Affairs. She has written for media outlets including the Newsletter and Northern Woman magazine and provides voice overs, corporate video services and media training to executives.

Lynda is a mental health advocate and speaks publicly about her own experiences of depression. She represents third sector organisations at board level, notably, AWARE, NI’s foremost mental health charity, and has presented the case for good mental health to the Stormont Health Committee. She is current Chairman of Youth Lyric, one of the largest youth arts organisations on the island of Ireland and is passionate about inspiring confidence in young people. Lynda was presented with an Award of Distinction by Belfast Institute of Further and Higher Education (2006) for her contribution to the life of the citizens of Belfast.
