Tom has always been focused on the visual aspects of storytelling and has recently built a strong body of work as a Director of Photography across a wide range of documentary genres. In his most recent projects, he has specialised in productions that incorporate dramatic reconstruction, enabling him to bring a cinematic sensibility to real-world narratives. His work is defined by a balance of striking visual composition and a sensitivity to performance, using a range of techniques to create atmosphere while maintaining authenticity in service of the story.

 

He possesses a strong understanding of both the technical and editorial demands of production, a dual perspective that allows him to contribute creatively at every stage—from pre-production through to final delivery. Whether collaborating with contributors in sensitive environments or coordinating complex shoots, he brings a considered and adaptable approach.

 

Tom has filmed in some of the world’s most challenging environments, overcoming the demands of extreme heat in the Gobi Desert while working on Ash Dykes: Yellow River Adventure, and enduring temperatures as low as -40°C in the Alaskan wilderness for Ice Airport Alaska, produced for the Smithsonian Channel.

 

He has also demonstrated versatility when working across multilingual productions. On projects requiring multiple language versions, he has collaborated closely with native-speaking producers to ensure comprehensive coverage, even in languages he does not speak. This was particularly evident on Emerald Isles for the BBC, presented by Ardal O’Hanlon, where filming took place in both Gaelic and English across the islands off the Irish coast.

 

In 2026, his work as Director of Photography was recognised with an RTS Cymru award for the sports documentary Swimming Against the Tide, which tells the story of Paralympic gold medallist Liz Johnson.

 

Tom continues to bring creativity and precision to each production he undertakes at One Tribe, executing projects with increasing confidence and a distinctive visual style.
